Hope you’re having a great week. Warm weather has arrived and I’m so happy to finally be able to dress up sans the winter jackets and coats.
Last Friday night was all about partying with my girl gang at the club and creating some fun memories to cherish. Since I received messages from some of you regarding the look I sported that night, so I thought I would kick the weekend off with this OOTN post. For me, going to a night club comes along with meeting new people, having some fun time with my friends and throwing shapes at the dance floor. I feel it’s the easiest and the most fun way to socialize and break the monotony of the routine. Clubs are also the best opportunity for me to try something new and bold that I won’t be able to carry to any other event. Dressing for a club is almost like a no brainer for me but not when I’m going to meet a celebrity right there. This time was different from all the other parties I have attended so far since I was going to meet one of my favorite singers from the RnB and pop genre. I couldn’t contain my happiness and I all I could do before the event was to plan the look and be dressed to the nines! Here are the deets of what I wore and how I styled it:
DRESS: Whenever I think of a night club dress, I’m reminded of a super sultry and a glamorous outfit. My aim usually is to look all glam and glitzy to a club, but this time I wanted to look more elegant and celeb-like. So I chose a classic black maxi dress featuring one shoulder and a thigh high split. I purchased this chiffon dress in India a year ago from Koovs.com and carried it in my suitcase to Dublin. I love to invest in good classic dresses that can be used year round and even repeated if need be. As I mentioned in my previous posts, solid colored dresses are easy to dress up and accessorized as per the occasion. Plus the power and versatility of a LBD needs no mentions. I thought if I add some statement jewellery to this dress, I can easily add to the glam quotient! This particular Koovs dress is inspired from the Ralph Lauren Black one shoulder gown and bonus is that it has a mesh sleeve to add to the grace. The side thigh split has overlapping flaps but it’s a risky cut so I had to wear a basic black jersey skirt underneath just to be safe. Coming to the practicality of wearing a maxi dress to a club, I’d say that I have become comfortable over a period of time slaying maxi dresses anywhere and everywhere. I won’t of course recommend a maxi dress for club to someone who’s wearing it for the first time.
MAKEUP: While all the elements of the makeup should be well coordinated with your outfit but black is such a versatile color that it gives you the freedom to play around the makeup .The low key shade of black gave me the opportunity to showcase a dark and a sultry glam makeup look that allows the dress to stand out. I didn’t want to use colors anywhere except the lip so I went ahead with 2 shades of brown and a shade of charcoal to create a smokey eye makeup look. I started off with Rimmel Gel liner on the lid, working its way upwards with the help of a blending brush. Then I worked with a brown shade on the crease area and created some more depth using a deeper shade of brown. I finally blended the browns on the crease and the gel black on the lid together with a charcoal shade of black. When you are working with a harsh color like black, there is a lot of fallout so make sure to do your eye makeup before applying the foundation. I used the Colossal Kohl from Maybelline for tight-lining the eyes and Rimmel Brow this way kit for the eyebrows. After finishing working on my waterproof base, I applied a very soft shade of pink blush from Lakme which complemented the color of my lipstick and the sling bag I was going to carry. I used a pinkish-plum shade of a moisturizing cream lipstick from Colorbar to add a pop of color to the look. I also matched my lipstick to my nails to spread the color evenly across the look. I deliberately skipped wearing false lashes since the eye makeup was dark enough to just get away with a few strokes of mascara. Coming to my favorite part of the makeup, I used lots of highlighter from Revlon for that disco ball glow on my cheeks. I also made sure to use a body makeup spray from Sally Hansen for that insta-worthy airbrushed skin. I loved how the makeup turned out to be exuding a sense of power exactly how I had envisioned.
HAIR: I’m a naturally curly girl but this look demanded a rather sleek look especially on the crown area. There can’t be too many things going on in a look. So I decided to use a flat iron to straighten just the top of my hair and retain my natural curls at the bottom for an effortless look.
BAG: It’s always a great and a practical decision to carry a cross body sling bag to the club especially when you plan to burn the dance floor. I chose a pale pink suede cross body bag from New Look to soften the overall look. It not only complemented my makeup but added some delicacy to the overall bold look.
JEWELLERY: Jewellery is one of the best ways to add a personal style to an outfit. My choker necklace purchased last year from Debenhams was waiting since long to be styled to its glory. I was so happy to finally find just the perfect occasion and the dress that could do the justice to this statement neck-piece. Chokers go so well with the shape of my neck and my body type that I find it hard to find anything better looking than it for myself. I coordinated this necklace with small earrings, matching bracelet and rings to tie the look together in a very neat way. The key to accessorizing right is to not go overboard and just use it wherever necessary to fill the gaps or make a statement.
FOOTWEAR: I love to wear heels because they instantly make you look attractive and stylish. I opted for wide fit block heel sandals from New look instead of the uncomfortable stilettos so that I could dance with some ease. Trust me when I say that it was my sheer luck that I own a pair of glitter heels that matched impeccably with the jewellery used for the look.
