Finding the perfect foundation is a tricky yet a rewarding process. The drugstore products I used like Lakme, Rimmel and Revlon are great, but I wanted something more full coverage this time for my pigmented skin and Smashbox worked like a dream for me! This was my first and probably the best luxury foundation purchase from Arnotts. Smashbox is the leading Hollywood photo studio inspired cosmetic brand based in Los Angeles and is a part of Estee Lauder Companies. This is the only beauty brand with a lighting lab called Flashbox, where they test and perfect color consistency across all 22 shades in any light.
What it is: An oil-free, hydrating liquid foundation meant to give you flawless skin for 15 hours. Available in 22 shades and 30 ml in volume, it is tested to ensure that you look good in any light.
What it Claims: It promises to stay put for 15 hours with medium-to-full buildable coverage and a natural matte finish. It can blur imperfections with light-diffusing spheres. No touch-ups required since it is exercise-resistant, sweat-resistant & transfer-proof. It is suitable for all skin types and has a lightweight and comfortable feel. The product is cruelty free and is also formulated without parabens, phthalates, oil and fragrance.
My experience and review of Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation:
Packaging: It comes in a nice box and the product is luxuriously housed in a sturdy glass bottle. Smashbox makes it easy for you to love them; unlike many other high end foundations, this comes with a pump! The pump helps dispense the perfect amount of the product and comes with a black cap on it.
Shade and Application: Just for info, I’m shade spiced sand in Estee Lauder Double Wear and have a dry skin with olive undertones. I got color matched to shade 3.0 which is cool medium beige and looks a bit orangish. I used a hydrating primer first and then applied the foundation with a Kabuki brush. Only 2-3 pumps were sufficient for me to get a good coverage. Unlike other medium to full coverage foundations, this one is lightweight and soft to skin. This product is a bit sticky but it definitely isn’t a hindrance if you work it up well. It has gel like consistency and doesn’t really dry for a long time so you have to work a bit fast with this one. If you want to build up the product more, work with a brush instead of the beauty blender.
Coverage and Finish: I deliberately skipped the color correction aspect to check the coverage of this foundation and I was amazed to see the results! It managed to cover all my skin pigmentation and imperfections in one go! This product claims to be medium to full coverage, but I would say it definitely is a full coverage foundation. It gave me a velvety, soft and matt finish which isn’t cakey at all. It didn’t emphasize my fine lines unlike other matt foundations and gave a poreless and smooth finish. I couldn’t believe how flawless it made my skin look!
Staying Power: After stepping out of my home, I kept checking my base in every light possible and yes, it works the same as it claims. To be sure, I tried taking pics in different lights and I was highly impressed as there were no flashbacks. You can check in the pictures below the results in each light. The lasting thing about this foundation is to die for! I went out, did a full road trip with party at the end of the day and it stayed the same as I applied it first. 8 hours of brilliance and there was no transfer or oil on my face. At the end of the day, all I was left with was a healthy, dewy glow on my face and no greasy look.

Recommendation: I absolutely loved the foundation and it definitely is my holy grail now. It doesn’t break me out, never dries my skin despite being oil free. This would definitely suit all skin types if used with a correct primer. Don’t forget to contour your face post application to avoid your face looking flat. This foundation is highly recommended if you need a matt full coverage foundation that looks like skin in daylight.
