They say, “Imperfections are beautiful and once you accept them, no one can use them against you.” Most of us including me constantly struggle with a lot of skin related concerns like pigmentation and dark under-eye circles. A good concealer always comes in handy to mask those blemishes and age spots that come in your way to a flawless makeup.I’m always on a lookout for concealers that are full coverage and affordable at the same time; trust me it’s not that easy to find such a miracle product especially if its drugstore.Since the time I found L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD concealer, I have made sure to keep good backups of it stocked in my vanity. If you are a Tarte Shape Tape or Makeup Forever full cover concealer user, then you might not feel the need to try this one but know that it does almost the same job in less than half the price! I currently own 4 shades of L.A. Girl concealer and use them for different purposes in makeup.Today I would review this cult beauty product that most makeup artists swear by:

L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer

What it is: It is a crease-resistant concealer with opaque coverage in a creamy and lightweight texture. It is used to even skin tone, blur fine lines and conceal dark circles for a face free of imperfections. L.A. Girl Cosmetics has introduced these multi-tasking concealers in a variety of shades to cover and correct all skin types and tones.

What it Claims: LA Girl HD concealer claims to provide a natural-looking coverage, even skin tones, cover dark circles and minimize fine lines around the eyes. It also promises to be a long wearing and crease-resistant formula that camouflages darkness under the eyes, redness and skin imperfections.

Ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Cyclopentasiloxane, Beeswax (Cera Alba) Stearyl Dimethicone, Isododecane, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Microcrystalline Wax (Cera Microcristallina), Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Glyceryl Laurate, Polyglyceryl-4 Oleate, Mica, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Propylene Glycol, Chamomilla Recutita Extract, Propylene Carbonate, Sodium Hyaluronate, May Contain: Iron Oxides, (CT 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

My experience and review of L.A. Girl HD PRO Concealer

I got introduced to L.A. Girl concealer back when I was living in Singapore where everyone used to rave about how perfect this concealer is. I picked one shade and since that time I have sticked to using this concealer. I love how this product can be used as a concealer, color-corrector and even a highlighter. I currently own the following shades of the Pro Conceal range:

GC991 Yellow corrector Neutralizes Purple/Blue tones: I use this as a highlighter sometimes mixed with my skin tone concealer, Pure Beige. The yellow doesn’t work on medium-dark (and ashy sometimes) skin tones like mine for color correction. It can be a great corrector though for pale and cool toned complexions.

GC990 Orange Corrector Neutralizes Dark tones: I use this corrector for the darkest spots on my face like acne scars and dark circles. Since it’s a bright orange, I use it only for times when I’m wearing a medium to full coverage makeup as the orangish tones might otherwise be visible underneath a sheer/ bb cream coverage.

GC976 Pure Beige: I use it as a brightening concealer/ highlighter on top of my foundation.

GC975 Medium Bisque: This is a peachish-brown shade that my skin loves for under eye and mild acne scarring. This is wearable even with a sheer coverage foundation as the shade is nothing artificial like the orange corrector. I absolutely swear by this one for my skin pigmentation.

Let’s see if LA Girl HD Pro concealer also runs true to its claims.

Packaging:  L.A. Girl concealer comes in a squeezable plastic tube with a paintbrush applicator. Those who are addicted to using a doe foot applicator might not appreciate this brush application packaging. But if you are a makeup artist where you have to work on multiple clients using a single product, then you’ll find it so much handy and hygienic to use. I take out a little bit on a pre-sanitized palette and apply using a concealer brush when I’m working on models. Even when using it for myself, I avoid direct brush application as it might take out more than what’s required. I love the packaging for the fact that the squeeze tube prevents germs; it’s fuss and spillage free. Lightweight and handy packaging makes LA Girl cocealers both user and travel friendly.

My Skin Type: Dry

My Skin Tone: Medium, Olive with yellow undertones

Shade and Application:

As I mentioned, I use different shades of the concealer for different purposes. If you have a medium to dark complexion like mine, then it’s best to opt for orange concealer (GC990) to brighten the dark areas. For fair to medium complexions, shade peach or pale pink would be a best friend in hiding those dark areas. For highlighting, choose a color one or two shades lighter than your foundation. You can even try blending a couple of shades together for the perfect match just like I like to mix shades GC991 and GC976 for highlighting. Let’s now talk about my first impression of the product. After cleaning, toning and moisturizing my face, I applied a hydrating primer all over my face including the area around eyes. Using a concealer brush, I applied shade medium bisque to the pigmented areas of face. At first I thought the concealer won’t blend because of its thickness, but I was really amazed when it blended smoothly like a dream! The texture of the concealer is smooth and it blended well even with the density. It’s like a thick runny liquid that is impressively easy to spread and blend.  After this, I applied foundation and topped it with the highlighting  shade. I sometimes like to pat on my fingers instead of using the beauty blender to melt the product into my face. You might need to blend the concealer immediately as it may dry up a bit if left sitting on the face.

Coverage, pigmentation and Finish:

When I applied it first, I never thought it would blend to such a full coverage! I won’t say like it’s super full coverage but medium to full, exactly what my skin requires. It has a super buildable coverage and the pigmentation is insane! My dark circles and hyper pigmentation were gone like they never existed. Wow! It gave me a perfectly covered yet naturally beautiful look. It is truly a HD concealer as per the claims as it delivers a flawless finish. Despite being thick in consistency it doesn’t look cakey at all. Ensure that you combine your perfect LA Girl concealer shade with a foundation that your skin loves, as it highly impacts the overall finish. If you have an oily skin, you can set it with a loose powder to make the concealer stay in place all day long.

Staying Power:

Even after 8 hours of wear, the concealer didn’t budge and the sculpted look remained intact. It’s a water based concealer with the usage of beeswax in it which maybe helps in enhancing the staying power of the concealer. LA Girl HD Pro concealer is clearly long lasting in wear and maintains a semi-matte finish throughout the day. I’m impressed that it didn’t highlight any dry patches and fine lines on the skin and stayed true to its claims all day long.

Recommendation: For the price, this drugstore concealer is fab like no other! Might aswell camouflage the flaws of our life :).This concealer doesn’t break me out and melts perfectly into the skin like butter. This concealer is highly recommended for all skin types that need an opaque and even coverage. Don’t forget to use your eyecream and primer before applying this concealer. I would definitely be restocking it like every year.
